Moving forward…into the past.

So…the dust is slowly settling, the realization that I I’ve written nearly 110,000 words in a coherent sequence (something I hear they call a “novel”) is sinking in, and while I am going to be taking a break to rest my fingers, I can’t help but feel sorry for you, my poor readers, that you will be deprived of my wondrous words (ha!).

So I have a special treat for you: starting next week, I will begin to publish the work that began this whole journey: the history of the world of Erâth, from its very creation, all the way until the events that take place in the story you have just read.

If you’ve been with me a while, you’ll recognize that this history was already published some time ago over on Satis, but I am sneaky, and have removed them from that site so as not to spoil the surprises (destinare got there, but don’t ask her!). It is a deep, expansive and breathing world; a world filled with life, and love, and darkness, and terrible tragedy. It is a world of mystery, of questions unanswered (because I couldn’t think them up), and of men and demons and beasts.

For now, I will leave you with some geography: the map of Erâth I created when I first started, so I could place the events in space, and know what it was I was telling. It is a draft, it is incomplete; but it suffices to help understand the world Brandyé and the others live in. For reference, Consolation (not marked) is a tiny country in the southeastern tip of the land of Thaeìn.

Enjoy this world, enjoy the coming weeks, and enjoy the past.

  1. Wonderful!
I look forward to going back to the beginning with you. It has felt too daunting at present to embark on this task, so now I can do it weekly, and have something to look forward to again.
(Sorry, I have to put on an editor’s cap – ‘that I written nearly . . . ‘ maybe not be what you want to show to a publisher!!!)
You have been sneaky, I was saving those chapters for one of my sleepless nights, I guess I’ll just have to be patient!
And wait for your WONDROUS words
(just brilliant, the self confidence you possess!) 😉

    • You cheeky thing, you! Thank you for pointing out my mistakes (grumble, grumble).

If you really want those extra chapters, give me a wink – I might have a way of getting them to you!

  2. Hehehe!! 😉
I thought it was funny that you omitted the word just before you regaled us with how wondrous your writing is!!
And the chapters, no, but thankyou, I like the idea of reading them each week, gives me something to look forward to.
    (I presume that’s what you’re intending)
